Getting Back To Tooth Care Basics
In Western culture it is really important to have a perfect, beautiful and white smile. It’s possible that this is the result of fashion, magazines and Hollywood influence. Even if you can’t afford to have your teeth totally straightened you need to make sure that they are, at least, healthy.
After you know more about proper gum and tooth care you’ll understand that keeping your mouth healthy and in great shape really isn’t that difficult. You may be surprised to discover the things we all tend to do each day that are not in the best interest of our teeth. The best thing you can do to defend yourself is to educate yourself, get regular checkups and take the proper action. Obviously, to be a proper brushing routine, you need to use the better strokes for the better parts of your teeth. Most people probably don’t brush for the proper length of time. Your brushing needs to last for at least two minutes each time you do it. Use a forty five degree angle when you brush your gum line. You want to try to loosen and dislodge any food particles that are present. When you are working at the gum line, be more gentle and careful with the amount of pressure you exert so you do not damage the gum. We all know that flossing is an integral part of good mouth care. It is also important to acknowledge that your dentist has probably told you to floss every day–which is good advice. Here are some things that you need to do when you floss your teeth. Obviously you want to do a good job while refraining from causing damage to your gums while you do it. Once you’ve got the floss between your teeth, you need to be gentle as you move it in a back and forth motion. Do not force the floss to go up and under the line of your gums, instead simply slide it up and down on your tooth. To make sure that you have oriented your floss correctly, pull it around the edges of your tooth.
The best reason to see your dentist, other than getting things repaired, is to prevent things from happening that require a trip to the dentist to fix.
To be honest, a checkup every six months should be enough to make sure everything is as it should be. Joking aside, this is a lot better than simply waiting for pain to set in because that will only mean one thing. Prevention is always your best option, it’s cheaper and it’s less painful too.
