St Louis Rams Merchandise Prepares for Clashes on the Gridiron

“Only the strong survive.” Throughout planet Earth, this is one of the prevailing laws of nature and societies. From microorganisms to humans and from plants to animals, only the fittest and toughest beings are able to survive our “dog-eat-dog” world. Thus, it is important for any living being to make necessarily adjustments to its environment. This will sustain its survival.  Failing to be robust or rugged enough typically results in the inability to survive.

RAM-TOUGH
While 13 of the National Football League’s (NFL) 32 teams possess the names of animals, the St. Louis Rams are unique. Their name represents a specific gender of an animal: a male sheep. However, in actuality, the team is named after the male Bighorn Sheep. Typically, we think of sheep as peaceful creatures. However, when the huge, curved horns of two male Bighorn Sheep clash in a head-on collision, this creates an equally huge clamor. During the mating season, the male rams battle with their horns, creating a hierarchy of supremacy.

What is the history of the NFL team named after rugged Bighorn Sheep? Why does “Rams” appear on some NFL sports products? The first general manager of the Rams, Damon “Buzz” Wetzel chose the Rams’ name, in honor of the Fordham Rams: his favorite football team. The Rams originally represented the city of Cleveland (1937-1942, 1944-1945); and later, the “City of Angels”: Los Angeles (1946-1994).

RAMS IN THE SUPER BOWL
The Rams have appeared in the Super Bowl three times: once as the Los Angeles Rams, and twice as the St. Louis Rams:

Super Bowl XIV (1980)
The Los Angeles Rams have appeared in one Super Bowl: Super Bowl XIV. Though they were 10.5-point underdogs, the Rams played a valiant game against the 3-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, the Rams were leading 13-10 at halftime,
and 19-17 at the start of the 4th quarter.

However, Terry Bradshaw (Quarterback) and the powerhouse Steelers scored two TDs in the last quarter of play, to win the game 31-19.  In the fourth quarter, John Stallworth (Wide Receiver) caught two long passes from Bradshaw, including one for a touchdown.
FINAL SCORE: STEELERS 31, RAMS 19

Super Bowl XXXIV (1999)
This NFL championship game included the St. Louis Ram the Tennessee Titans, while fans cheered with nfl products. While the Titans had a chance to win on the last play of the game, the Rams had the talent and opportunities to win decisively. In each of their first six possessions of the game, the Rams entered the Titans’ “Red Zone” (inside the 20-yardline). However, the Rams only scored 1 touchdown and 3 field goals, leading to a 16-0 lead. At halftime, the Rams were 3/4 on field goals, while the Titans were 0/1, giving the former a 9-0 lead.

In the second half, the Titans clawed their way back into the game. The Rams scored on a touchdown pass, from Kurt Warner to Tony Holt. That put the Rams up 16-0. However, the Titans thundered back, scoring touchdowns on their next two possessions. After missing a 2-point conversion attempt, the Titans had cut the Rams lead to 16-13. After the Titans tied up the game with a field goal, the Rams battled back, scoring a touchdown with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. On the contest’s last play, the Rams stopped the Titans one yard short of tying up the game.
FINAL SCORE: RAMS 23, TITANS 16

In the first half, the Rams quickly realized that the game would be a battle. Although they scored first on a field goal, the Patriots Ty Law intercepted the Rams’ QB, Kurt Warner, and then scored on a 47-yard touchdown run. Before the game’s intermission, the Patriots defense forced a Rams fumble, leading to a second touchdown. As a shock to the sports world, the Patriots were leading at halftime, 14-3.

At first, the second half seemed to be a repeat of the first half. After Otis Smith intercepted a Warner pass, the Patriots tacked on another field goal. Down 17-3, the Rams finally started to get the job done on offense. After scoring two TDs, the Patriots had knotted up the score at 17-17. However, in less than 1.5 minutes, Tom Brady (Quarterback) and the Patriots marched 53 yards down the field.
